Centre to ‘prune’ Sikh blacklist, only 50 hardcore names to stay

blacklist.jpgGiving in to a two decades old demand by Punjab and its diaspora, the Centre has begun work on pruning the "blacklist" of Sikhs that debarred several members of the community from entering the country for their association with terrorists, it is learnt. Highly-placed sources in the Union Home ministry have said the list containing 300-odd names would be pared down to about 50 by next month-end.

Intersections Matchmaking, the Only National Elite Personalized Matchmaking Company focused on Singles of South Asian descent in the U.S, founded by a Sikhni Jasbina Ahluwalia, held its first-ever social networking gathering in downtown DC on Thursday, Oct. 1 at Tabaq restaurant where an equal ratio of 50 men and and women attended a sold-out event.

The attendees were extremely pleased with the ratio and the good looking crowd that turned out. Some were newcomers and others were old friends of the founder Jasbina who ventured back into the dating game.

Sikh Paintings on Sothebys Auction Block

sothebys.jpgThree Sikh history paintings are set to be auctioned off at Sotheby's in New York on Sept. 17.

One of the paintings depicts the ten Gurus with Guru Nanakji at the center. The opaque water color was painted by an artist named Sardool Singh.

Bidding for this painting begins at the $5,000-$7,000 range.

Karambir Singh Kang, General Manager, The Taj Mahal Palace & Tower, Mumbai has been awarded the prestigious Virtuoso Hotelier of the Year Award, 2009 at the Virtuoso "Best of the Best" Hotel Awards held in Las Vegas recently during the Virtuoso's 21st Annual Travel Mart Conference.

Karambir was awarded this honour in admiration of his commitment and dedication towards his job and his role in making the Taj Mahal Palace & Tower, Mumbai, one of the best hotels in the world. Karambir was the only Indian to have been nominated this year and his win brings pride to the industry as a whole.

Newly-opened Sikh Center of Virginia held a Baisakhi celebration on April 12 in Prince William County, Virginia where hundreds of devotees attended and took in a myriad of religious, cultural and gastronomincal delights. Kirtan jathas from India and locally participated including children. Outside the diwaan, there were stalls for various foods, all donated by local congregants, ranging from chole bathura, to jalebis to pakoras.
