| | Â | | Â | Â | South Asian Americans Leading Together (SAALT), a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering the full participation of South Asians in the civic and political life of the United States, seeks a consultant to spearhead an innovative community needs assessment and outreach project focused on South Asians living and working in the District of Columbia. The DC South Asian Community Empowerment (SACE) project, a collaboration between SAALT and the Asian Pacific American Legal Resource Center (APALRC) seeks to (1) broaden understanding of and information about South Asians who live and work in the District through community needs assessments and focus groups; (2) inform and educate stakeholders, government agencies and community members about the needs and experiences of South Asian community members in the District; and (3) provide legal services and education for South Asians in the District. The DC SACE Project Consultant will assist with program development and implementation. The position's geographic focus will be in the District of Columbia. Principal Responsibilities:
- Develop needs assessment and focus group questions in collaboration with agencies;
- Organize and implement focus groups of 50 South Asians in D.C.;
- Conduct needs assessment of 150 South Asians in D.C.;
- Engage in outreach and build relationships with South Asian communities and organizations in D.C. to gain understanding of community needs and emerging issues;
- Develop a report based on results of needs assessment, focus groups, and understanding of needs in the South Asian community;
- Organize briefings and meetings with stakeholders to present findings of report;
- Identify topics and areas for community education and outreach for organizations serving South Asians in D.C.; and
- Assist in evaluation of project, including the identification of sustainability and long-term impact
Qualifications:
- Experience with conducting surveys, mapping, community assessments highly preferred
- Prior experience working with immigrants and/or community-based organizations preferred
- Graduate students in Masters' programs highly encouraged to apply; undergraduate degree required
- Must be detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
- Must be able to work collaboratively with multiple agencies, as well as independently
- Proficiency in a South Asian language required
Salary and Benefits: Monthly stipend provided. This is a temporary consultancy position that will require a commitment of approximately about 15 to 20 hours per week, between November 2008 and April 2009.
