Mumbai Massacre | Prominent Sikh Businessman in Dramatic Rescue at the Taj Hotel in Mumbai |
![]() JBS Bakshi, a prominent hotel guest at the Taj (shown in his room), was still trapped in his 18th floor room as of Noon EST as Indian para military officials tried to reclaim the hotel from the terrorists. Jang Bahadur Singh Bakshi, a Delhi-based businessman, who spends a substantial amount of time at the hotel while on business from New Delhi, was still trapped in his hotel room when SCC News last spoke to him and his relatives in Mumbai at Noon EST. However, over 20 hours after he was locked up in his hotel room, Bakshi heard a loud bang on his door and heard loud voices asking who was in the room. He responded back in a loud and daring voice: "Who are you," adding "I'm a guest of the hotel." Within minutes commandos were in his room and he was whisked away to safe confines from his room. Bakshi received over 1,000 phone calls from friends and relatives anxious to learn about his safety while he was holed up in his room. They were worried that over 400 people had been avacuated from the property but the security teams had not reached his room. Family members are also worried because Bakshi has diabetes and had only fruit to consume in his room when the terrorism outbreak occurred at the hotel. One family member contacted by SCC News on the phone said the Bakshi was in contact with senior management of the hotel and had been told that the rescue and clean up operations were being conducted floor by floor and because the hotel is spread over two wings and has over 800 rooms it could take some time for the rescuers to reach him. EDITOR's NOTE: Mr Bakshi is related to Lakhinder JS Vohra, Executive Director of SCC News. He is his Uncle. |
